Top Reasons to Move to the Graduate Hospital Neighborhood

Graduate Hospital might be the city’s most walkable neighborhood. Take a walk down any of the numerous sidewalks and you’ll see dozens of residents walking their dogs, pushing their strollers, or headed to work in Rittenhouse Square

When residents need to travel a little further outside the neighborhood, they simply take the nearby public transit. It’s just a quick walk to the Lombard-South stop on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line (also known as the Broad Street Subway) which travels to such popular destinations as City Hall and the South Philadelphia Sports Complexes for Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers games.

Residents also enjoy the benefits of SEPTA’s Route 40 Bus which travels up and down South Street. It’s a great option for commuting to Center City and other popular Philadelphia neighborhoods.

Community Connections

Two of the city’s most popular annual community events are held in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood: Bloktoberfest and Odunde

Originally a one-off fundraiser to replace the roof on a local church, Bloktoberfest has evolved into a full-fledged annual celebration of the community. Each year this block party-style fest attracts up to 20,000 people who gather to enjoy a day filled with food, fun and music. And all of the money raised goes toward supporting local nonprofit agencies in the community.

From its humble beginnings in 1975, Odunde has evolved into the largest African American street festival on the East Coast. Held each summer, this fabulous fest spreads across 12 blocks of the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. Residents can stroll the streets to enjoy fabulous food, unbeatable entertainment, and to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts offered by vendors from all over the world.

Lots of Great Places to Call Home

Recently, Graduate Hospital has experienced an energetic wave of revitalization and development. As a result, the neighborhood now offers many great housing choices for up-and-coming professionals and families.

One of the most popular choices is Naval Square, a gated community (and historical landmark) in the heart of Graduate Hospital. A community with the community, Naval Square showcases 20 acres of various floor plans with first-rate amenities such as a modern fitness center, a seasonal outdoor pool with a sun deck, and guest parking (which is always a bonus in any part of the city).
