Washington Square Information
Centered around Washington Square park, the Washington Square neighborhood is a historic district featuring high rise condominium and rental buildings as well as beautiful townhomes, boutique retailers, restaurants and cafes. During Philadelphia’s years as a prominent publishing center, the Washington Square neighborhood was Philadelphia’s publishers’ row. Also in the neighborhood is the city’s renowned Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest theater in the United States which housed performances of famous actors including Marlon Brando, Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn. Also within the Washington Square neighborhood are Jeweler’s Row and Antique Row. Many of the Washington Square residents are affiliated with the nearby Pennsylvania and Jefferson Hospitals.
